THREE-DIMENSIONAL WORK

My multi-dimensional work begins with what others leave behind. Fragments gathered on walks with the dog, roadside debris, and discarded objects rescued from dumpsters become the raw materials for transformation. What is overlooked, abandoned, or deemed worthless becomes the starting point.

The sheer volume of what we throw away is overwhelming, but within it lies an unexpected abundance. Each piece is an exploration of possibility: how cast-off materials can be reimagined as canvases, frames, and sculptural forms. Some works stand freely, others hang on the wall, and larger pieces live outdoors, integrated into the landscape.

This practice is both creative and conscious, an act of upcycling that invites a shift in perspective. By seeing “trash” differently, we begin to question what we value, what we discard, and what might still hold beauty.

Inspired in part by the annual Trashion Fashion show at the Sonoma Community Center, where artists create wearable pieces entirely from discarded materials, this body of work embraces the challenge of making something striking from what was never meant to last. Each piece stands as a quiet argument for imagination, resourcefulness, and reconsideration.
